OUR SERVICES
Assessment and Consultation
Our licensed professionals conduct comprehensive assessment, provide intervention planning and
consultation, and collaborate with other service providers in an interdisciplinary environment when needed.
The assessment is available for children, and to parents who might have seen delays or eccentric manifestations
during their child’s developmental milestones.
During the assessment, the child will undergo a test using different assessment tools and procedures. The result
of this test will be the basis of the type of services the child needs to have. This will also provide the families
and care givers the appropriate expectations about their child’s current functioning, as well to create a
realistic optimism on the possible outcome of the services to be provided, and the programs they could implement at home.
When do you need Assessment and Consultation?
The presence of developmental delays or needs of a child may not fully manifest until social demands exceed your child’s limited capacities. Therefore, parents and caregivers should be alert of the following red flags that may indicate the need for intervention:
- No babbling by 12 months.
- No pointing or gesturing by 12 months.
- No single word by 16 months.
- No 2-word phrase by 24 months.
- Does not draw attention to objects around.
Should there be indifferences, or manifestations of the red flags in the development of your child, the need for assessment and consultation will be of great help.
Therapy Sessions
The therapy session is a setting where a child receives appropriate intervention with goals that are solely designed for
the child's unique developmental functioning. The goal of the intervention is to nurture skills that will aid the child in his development.
This will help him achieve his maximum potential and add a degree of independence that will lead to a better quality of life.
We offer the following therapy services:
Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy helps children improve their cognitive, social, sensory, physical, and motor skills.
Thus, it enhances their self-esteem and builds sense of accomplishment. The O.T. program that Kidz Gym offers is designed in an interdisciplinary
environment that delivers a variety of perspectives that can benefit the intervention process.
We have a highly-qualified occupational therapist who is trained for Sensory Integration in Hong Kong, ensuring current and cutting edge knowledge in the field.
Speech Therapy
Children who have developmental delays often need help to improve their language, speech, and communication skills. The difficulty or inability
to express their wants and needs can be frustrating to them and can cause them to exhibit inappropriate behaviors in their attempt to be understood.
When you start to notice that your child has a problem with certain speech or language skills, or probably while interacting with your child, you have
observed him stuttering and having difficulty expressing himself (Expressive Language) or even understanding you (Receptive Language), it is already an
indication that he needs a speech therapist.
We have a regular speech therapist who will take the time to talk with you and plan a speech therapy program that can help your child improve his speech and accomplish great results.
Dyad Session / Group Therapy
Therapists usually recommend one-on-one therapy session. But whenever the child is ready, he will be suggested to a dyadic session and later in group therapy. This is to facilitate meaningful peer relationships and develop the child's social skills.
School Readiness and Enhancement Program
Kidz Gym adheres to the notion that educational placement for each child should be given in the least restrictive environment that will enable him to make the greatest long-term gains.
There are a vast number of educational placements available and it is important to carefully evaluate which placement best serves your child. Each placement offers
advantages and disadvantages to your child. It is not necessary to immediately begin in a restrictive environment. In the same way, the team does not also
rule-out a non-inclusive placement. There are instances when a more restrictive setting will best aid your child’s developmental needs and will enable him to
eventually attain a higher degree of independence.
The Kidz Gym team considers what is projected to provide the best opportunity and effective placement of your child that will help him rapidly develop skills in as many domains as possible.
The following services may help your child succeed in preparation for an inclusive classroom and improve his functional skills:
Group Class
The group class is a preparatory class for children before they enter K-12. It is designed to be developmentally-appropriate and child-friendly
so that preschool children will develop skills in many domains such as socio-emotional, psychomotor, academics, social communication, and
adaptive skills. These domains which are necessary for independent and lifelong learning are delivered to each child through an
Individualized Education Plan, while maintaining their full access to the core curriculum.
The group class is divided into the following levels:
- Playgroup
- Nursery 1
- Nursery 2
- Transition Class (to Kindergarten)
Pre-Vocational Class
The pre-vocational class is designed for young adults with developmental needs to help them learn functional and vocational skills. The class aims to increase their independence in daily living skills, develop age-appropriate functioning and facilitate social integration for them to become productive individuals in society. All students in the class are granted with a full access to the program’s core curriculum through an Individualized Education Plan.
Tutorials
The tutorial service addresses and provides support to a wide range of students. The service is open to all levels from Kindergarten to Grade 12 in all subject areas. Our teachers track the academic progress of the child as well as reach-out to their school teachers when necessary. The aim of the program is to uplift the school performance of the child – academically and behaviorally. Our teachers are also equipped with skills in behavioral modification techniques in order to efficiently meet the academic demands and deliver the lesson that the child has to perform and learn.
Shadow Teaching
There are times when a child with special needs who is enrolled in a mainstream or an inclusive classroom setting needs an educational assistant who directly works with him at school during his early school years. We can provide a Shadow Teacher who is widely knowledgeable when it comes to varied learning strategies and behavioral modification techniques suitable for your child.
Social Skills Training Program
Play and social skills are among the most important skills that your child needs to learn. Play and social connections enable them to expand their horizon and improves their quality of life dramatically.
The lack of skills in these areas usually leads to isolation, low self-esteem, boredom, inability to cope over stressors, and even depression. Allowing
children to engage in play and interaction with others teaches them the necessary skills to get along with other people and be productive members in an interdependent society.
The social skills training usually consists of 4-10 children who have diverse needs in communication, emotional regulation and social skills. Providing this social play and play opportunity to the children
will assist them in coping with social and environmental stressors, solving conflicts and problems, learning through casual observation, initiating and responding to
interaction and play, and adapting to society’s demands.
The Social Skills Training Program is divided into three groups:
- Beginning for ages 3-5;
- Intermediate for ages 5-9;
- Advanced for ages 10+.
The schedule of the program is every Saturday morning.
